Jimmies rally to top Minot State

Beavers jump out to 2-0 lead, can't finish off JC

MINOT, N.D. – The break between game 2 and game 3 was a nightmare scenario for Minot State University.
The Beavers plowed their way to a 2-0 lead, stunning conference leader Jamestown College early on, only to have the Jimmies turn the tables for a 3-2 (24-26, 9-25, 25-13, 25-14, 15-12) Dakota Athletic Conference volleyball win Friday at the MSU Dome.
“We had the momentum and let them back in and you can't do that against the top team in the conference,” said MSU head coach Johnna Torr. “It can really go both ways, for us it was bad and for them it was good.”
The match was a microscope of the Beavers entire season. When MSU was on, it was as good as anybody in the league. When the Beavers weren't, it wasn't pretty.
“The effort was there. When we show up and run a quick ball, we are pretty good,” Torr said.
After a back and forth game 1, the match swung completely in the direction of whichever team eventually won the game. MSU breezed through game 2 only to see the Jimmies do the same in games 3 and 4. Game 5 was back to the early tension.
JC took the lead for good in the fifth game with a tip kill from Shannon Fee to lead 10-8. MSU couldn't get back to even after three great rally points down the stretch.
MSU finished with 43 kills, but had 26 hitting errors in the match. Leading the way on offense was Jen Dixon (Fr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) with 11 kills. Shari Dueck (Sr., RS, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) added seven kills. Jenna Moffatt (Fr., Libero, Brandon, Manitoba) anchored the defense with 17 digs, while Jennifer Yausie (So., OH, Colonsay, Saskatchewan) finished with 16 digs and six kills. Abbey Aide (So., Setter, Bottineau, N.D.) returned from an injury to finish with 36 assists.
MSU plays its final DAC match Saturday night at the MSU Dome in the Beavers “Dig Pink” night against Valley City State at 7 p.m.
