Déjà vu for MSU

Beavers drop first game, rally for win for second straight night

Minot State freshman Annie Assel concentrates on a serve during a match Friday.
MINOT, N.D. – It was a different uniform across the net, but much of the same results for the Minot State University volleyball team Saturday.
The Beavers dropped game 1 to Mayville State, but rallied in convincing fashion in the final three to take a 3-1 Dakota Athletic Conference match at the MSU Dome.
“Apparently it takes us a while to warm up,” joked MSU head coach Johnna Torr. “But the kids step up and showed some leadership. We really got after the ball after the first game.”
MSU had a similar match with Dakota State on Friday, losing game 1 in a slow start, before rebounding.
“I'm not going to lie to you, I was a little worried after the first game,” Torr said. “We came back, though, I think we played better as a team after the first.”
The Beavers actually got their game back late in game 1, although the rally fell shot 25-23. It was all Minot State after that, winning 25-15, 25-22 and 25-19 to take their fourth DAC match this season. The Beavers are 4-2 with a Wednesday (7 p.m.) home date with rival Dickinson State marking the midway point of the conference season.
MSU was paced offensively by a surging Janice Rose Reinbolt (Jr., MH, Maple Creek, Sask.). Reinbolt finished with 17 kills and three blocks and has elevated her game throughout the season.
“Janice has been aggressive and constant and has been very confident this year,” Torr said.
Along with Reinbolt, MSU got 15 kills from Jennifer Yausie (So., OH, Colonsay, Saskatchewan), 14 from Jen Dixon (Fr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba), nine from Shari Dueck (Sr., RS, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) and five from Annie Assel (Fr., MH, Bismarck, N.D.).
MSU sophomore setter Abbey Aide (Bottineau, N.D.) did a good job of spreading the ball around to those five hitters as she college a season-high 61 assists and added a team-high 16 digs in the win.
