Beavers fall in three to Black Hills

MSU pushes Yellow Jackets, but can't get key points

Minot State University's Janice Rose Reinbolt goes up high for a kill.
MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University played with one of the top teams in the Dakota Athletic Conference for much of the night, but the Beavers settled for a 3-0 loss as Black Hills State swept a DAC volleyball contest Friday at the MSU Dome.
“We had a hard time finishing,” said MSU head coach Johnna Torr. “We just didn't push hard enough at the end, we let up and let them backing. I thought we rolled over for them in the third.”
The Beavers were right with BHSU in game 1, losing 25-22 and had a big lead in game 2 before the Yellow Jackets roared back for a 32-30 win. Game 3 was all Black Hills as the Yellow Jackets ran away with a 25-16 win.
“That push was all it would have taken – one point here or there,” Torr said. “We didn't have anybody that wanted to step up enough to do that.”
MSU led 22-16 in game 2 but couldn't put BHSU away. The Beavers had multiple chances for a game winner as they had game-point seven times but the Yellow Jackets had answers for everything the Beavers threw at them.
“They have got to want it more than the other team,” Torr added. We played great defensively but offensively we swung less than effective. And, when we swung, we swung scared. We didn't want to lose, but nobody pushed to win.”
MSU was paced by 12 kills by Jen Dixon (OH, Fr., Brandon, Manitoba). But diversity was the Beavers offensive attack as Sara Friesen (MH, R-Fr., Brandon, Manitoba) finished with seven kills and Shari Dueck (RS, Sr., Prince George, Saskatchewan), Jennifer Yausie () and Janice Rose Reinbolt (MH, Jr., Maple Creek, Saskatchewan) all finshed with six kills.
BHSU (3-0 DAC, 8-12 overall) got a match-high 12 kills from Maggie O'Neil and nine from Kylee Lamb.
Abbey Aide (So., Setter, Bottineau, N.D.) led MSU with 24 assists and had four digs. Jenna Moffatt (Fr., Libero, Brandon, Manitoba) finished with 14 digs to lead the defense.
The Beavers (1-2 DAC, 3-13 overall) are again at home Saturday night as they play host to South Dakota Mines beginning at 7 p.m. at the MSU Dome.
