Beavers downed by No. 5 UMD

The Beavers will look to finish the season with a win at SCSU Saturday

Box Score DULUTH, Minn.  – The Minot State University volleyball team has played many ranked opponents and many impressive hitters throughout their first season in the Northern Sun.

It's tough to argue that No. 5 University of Minnesota Duluth's Kate Lange isn't the best.

Lange, the senior from Hibbing, Minn. and recently named NSIC Player of the Year, along with the rest of the Bulldogs showed why they're in the top five in the country, as they beat MISU in straight sets 25-15, 25-14, 25-16 Friday night in Romano Gymnasium.

UMD (26-3 overall 17-2 NSIC) hit .400 as a team, including a scorching .481 in the final set. Lange led the Bulldogs with 10 kills overall. Bulldog setter Ashley Hinsch also played well, dishing out 32 assists throughout the match.

For Minot State (6-23 overall 2-17 NSIC) it was another story as the Beavers struggled to get the offense going, hitting only .092 for the match.

Freshman Mallory Sall (OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) led MISU with nine kills while also collecting 10 digs. Sophomore Emily Byrne (S, Reno, Nev.) passed for 20 assists overall.

Minot State will play their final match of the season Saturday afternoon as they travel to St. Cloud, Minn. to take on the St. Cloud State University Huskies at 4 p.m.
