Minot State splits two at Rochester

Beavers top UW-Parkside, lose to ranked Winona

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Minot State softball earned a neutral site split of a pair of nonconference NCAA Division II games RCTC Dome in Rochester.

MSU opened with a come-from-behind win over Wisconsin-Parkside, scoring two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to complete the comeback. The Beavers pushed No. 23 ranked Winona State in the second game, but fell 4-2.

In the first game, MSU led early, putting up a four-spot in the first inning. Parkside battled back, scoring single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings and plating three in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead.

But the Beavers (3-4 overall after the second game) the game-winning runs over the final two innings.

Tiffany Friesen (Sr., P/3B, Morden, Manitoba) earned the win in relief. MSU's Kyla Thiesen (Sr., 2B, Brandon, Manitoba), Jen Dixon (So., P/OF, Brandon, Manitoba) and Katelyn Burns (Cypress, Calif.) all finished with two hits.

In the second game, the Beavers again started early, getting two runs in the top of the first inning.

This time however, Winona State was able to rally, getting one in the fifth and two in the sixth for the win.

Dixon stayed hot at the plate, getting two hits. Deanna Mitchell (Sr., 1B, Portage, Manitoba) added a hit and two runs batted in.
