MISU's winning streak snapped

Winona State ended The Beavers' three game winning streak Saturday evening

Box Score WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State Warriors beat the Minot State University Beavers in Northern Sun volleyball action Saturday evening at McCown Gymnasium.

The Warriors (10-15 overall, 7-9 NSIC) ended Minot State's three-match winning streak, beating the Beavers (12-14 overall, 7-9 NSIC) in four sets 25-14, 25-20, 13-25, 25-20.

"We are all disappointed to lose this match," said Minot State head coach Travis Ward. "The nice thing is that we are still in the race. It just got a little tougher to get in the tournament now."

The Beavers currently sit in a four-way tie for eighth place in the NSIC. Only the top eight teams qualify for the tournament held near the end of November.

Minot State, statistically had an above average offensive attack against WSU, totaling a .209 hitting percentage. But the Warriors also hit better than their average, with a .235. Mallory Sall (So., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Lauren Dunkle (Fr., OH, Aurora, Colo.) led the Beavers with 12 kills apiece while Jen Dixon (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) notched 10 kills. Dixon also had 17 digs in the loss.

The Warrirors were led by Bekah Saugen with 13 kills and Mikalela Girard with 10 kills. Girard was incredibily efficient with her attacks as she need just 11 attempts to get those 10 kills (.909 hitting percentage).

"I am really pleased with how we responded in the third set after a slow start," said Ward. "It was really good to see Lauren have a good match. We will get back to work this week and prepare for two great teams."

The road forward is tough for MISU as they make a push for postseason play. They will hit the road on Nov. 8 & 9 to take on No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State and University of Sioux Falls.

"It's a great time of year when matchers matter this late," said Ward.
