MARSHALL, Minn.– The Minot State wrestling team failed to win a match against conference foe Southwest Minnesota State University Saturday afternoon in the PE Gym.

SMSU (4-2 Overall, 1-0 NSIC) controlled the day as they handed the Beavers (0-5 Overall, 0-2 NSIC) their tenth straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual loss, 40-0.

"It was a tough loss to take today," said Minot State head coach Robin Ersland. "We really took a few steps backwards in our progression as a team today. We lost focus late in a couple matches and that really hurt. We made mistakes today that I thought we were getting away from. Hopefully tomorrow we can turn it around and at least give a better effort."

MISU came close in a few matches as both Ricard Avakos (So., 157, Riga, Latvia) and Justin Berg (Fr., 174, Lynn Haven, Fla.) both lost their matches by one point at their respective weight classes. Also taking a tough loss was freshman Mitchell Eull (197, Buffalo, Minn.) at 197 pounds.

Eull was leading 3-2 with less than thirty seconds remaining when SMSU's Micah Larson won the bout with a two-point reversal followed by a two-point nearfall.

The loss marks the first time the Beavers have been shutout during the 2013-14 season. MISU was shutout three times a season ago with the last coming against No. 9 Minnesota State (54-0).

Minot State will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. to take on the Augustana College Vikings (5-2 Overall, 1-0 NSIC) at 2 p.m. from Elmen Center.
