Slow start haunts Beavers at UMC

Minot State trailed the Golden Eagles by 20 at halftime

Box Score CROOKSTON, Minn.– Minot State women's basketball made another second half run Saturday night against Minnesota Crookston.

The Beavers (15-7 Overall, ) went on a 15-4 run during the beginning of the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome a slow start as MISU fell to UMC (9-13 Overall, 6-12 NSIC) 74-62 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.

Minot State shot just 36.1 percent from the floor while giving up 40.7 percent to the Golden Eagles in their second matchup of the season. Trailing most of the game, MISU battled back to cut the lead to near single-digits but clutch free-throw shooting and points in the paint allowed UMC to hang on for their ninth win of the season.

Minnesota Crookston was led by Alexa Thielman with 23 points and eight rebounds. Katrina Moendedick also had a solid game with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.

Minot State was led by Carly Boag (Sr., F, Tamworth, Australia) with her ninth double-double of the season. Boag had 17 points and 17 rebounds while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. Alisha Jones (Sr., G, Killeen, Texas) scored 12 points while Katie Hardy (Jr., F, Fairview, N.D.) and Christina Boag (Jr., F, Tamworth, Australia) each chipped in with 11 and 10 points apiece.

MISU, who still sits in second place in the NSIC North Division, will look to get back on track at home as they host their final regular season games of the 2013-14 season. Friday Feb. 14 MISU takes on University of Sioux Falls at 6 p.m. before they host Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.
