After gaining a small lead early in the first set the Minot State University volleyball team allowed St. Cloud State to take the lead and stay in control throughout the remainder of the three sets.
With only one lead change in the second set and no lead changes in the third the Beavers were unable to do much against the Huskies.
St. Cloud State's defense limited MSU to an attack percentage of .092 with seven blocks and 59 digs. Minot State was able to get eight blocks against their opponent, but only dug 35 balls.
"You have to give credit to St. Cloud," said head coach
Ben Kaszeta. "They were very disciplined and well coached. We cannot hit the ball the way we did tonight and expect to be successful. I give credit to them. They took us out of our system a lot, but we need to limit our mistakes."
Offensively the Beavers were led by
Mallory Sall (OH, Sr., Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) and
Shaunessy Dauwalder (MH, Jr., Stanley, N.D.) who led the team with nine and eight kills, respectively.
Dauwalder also helped the team on defense with five assisted blocks. Defensive specialist
Hailey Richards (R-Fr., Humbolt, Saskatchewan) led the team with nine digs.
Minot State will travel to No. 1 Minnesota Duluth tomorrow, October 3 and play at 4 p.m.
