Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Minot State University couldn't get its offense going as the Beavers were shut out over the final six innings, falling 2-1 to St. Martin's in the final game of the 2015 Montana State-Billings Desert Stinger Sunday at Majestic Park.
The Beavers (3-2 overall) finished the tournament with a winning record for the second time in the past three seasons at the Desert Stinger.
Minot State finished with six hits compared to seven for St. Martin's, but couldn't push across another run after senior
Melissa Bell (UTL, Belgrade, Mont.) swatted a solo home run down the right field line in the bottom of the first inning. Bell's first HR of the season and her 24t h HR of her career, tied the game at one.
It remained that way until the sixth when Dani Wall's single to center scored Alyssa Slate for the eventual game winner. Wall finished with two RBI singles in the game to pace St. Martin's (4-8 overall).
MSU's
Mindy Lorimor (Sr., P, Thurman, Iowa) pitched a solid game, going the distance, giving up two runs and seven hits, while striking out three batters. But she suffered the tough-luck loss. Sam Munger matched her going seven, scattering six hits and striking out four MSU batters in the win.
Along with Bell,
Jordan Grant (So., CF, Adelnato, Calif.),
Ali Cygan (Sr., SS, Bozeman, Mont.)
Rachel Burdette (So., UTL, Temecula, Calif.),
Jenn Spencer (So., P, Winnipeg, Manitoba) and
Leyna Downey (Sr., OF/P, Missoula, Mont.) all finished with singles in the game.
