MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University soccer team fell in double overtime to Augustana in the second round of the NSIC Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Both teams played a tight game with a lot of action in the midfield throughout the first half of the game. Augustana was able to score, though, just 92 seconds before halftime.
The Vikings halftime lead was the first time an MSU opponent was able to hold a lead going into the break.
The Beavers came out after the half with a heavy offensive attack which led to a
Chloe Melton goal at the 69-minute mark to tie the game.
Kelli Creese and
Ashley Franco assisted on Melton's 13th goal of the season.
With the game ending 11 minutes later both team got ready for overtime. The game then went into double overtime as neither team found the net in the first 10 minutes of extra play.
Augustana earned the win to advance with a golden goal in the 107th minute off a corner kick. The Vikings will play Minnesota State in the NSIC Tournament Championship on Sunday, November 6 at 1 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium.
Minot State will find out if it will continue playing this season on Monday, November 7 when the NCAA will make its regional selection.
