CLERMONT, Fla. – Minot State University struggled on offense during a pair of losses at the National Training Center Tournament on the Beavers' second day during its annual trip to Florida.
MSU fell 9-0 to Lock Haven (Pa.) University 9-0 in game 1 and dropped a 4-0 decision to Philadelphia University in game 2 in nonconference NCAA Division II softball. The Beavers are now 7-6 overall.
"You can't win if you don't score," said MSU head coach
Bill Triplett. "It was a tough day for us. We will have to bounce back."
Lock Haven (10-7 overall) scored two runs in the first inning and built a 5-0 lead on three more in the third. MSU starter
Jenn Spencer (P, Winnipeg, Manitoba) went just two innings in the loss.
Sydney Prigge (So., P/OF, Tacoma, Wash.) worked the final three innings and gave up seven runs, but just four were earned as MSU committed two errors in the game.
MSU finished with four hits – all singles – and left five on base.
Clarissa Ramirez (Jr., P/UTL, Tucson, Ariz.) went 1 for 1 at the plate with a walk.
Against Philadelphia, MSU again only collected four hits in the loss. Ramirez was 1 for 3 with a double to lead the Beavers at the plate. She was also the losing pitcher as she worked four innings, giving up four hits and three runs with only one earned. Ramirez dropped to 1-1 on the season.
Minot State plays two more before a day off, taking on Ferris State and Long Island University Saturday.
