Beavers Visit Mary for NSIC Contest

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State women's basketball team will travel to Mary to face the Marauders in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest on Tuesday (Dec. 19) at 5:30 p.m. in the McDowell Activity Center.

The Beavers will be seeking to complete the season sweep of Mary after beating the Marauders 72-62 on Nov. 25 in the Minot State Dome.

Minot State, which is 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC, will be looking to bring an end to a four-game losing streak. After its win over Mary, the Beavers were 4-1 on the season but dropped games to Northern State, Minnesota State Moorhead, Augustana and Wayne State in its last four games.

Senior Holly Johnson currently leads the Beavers averaging 14.1 points per game, which ranks eighth in the NSIC. She also is 13th in the conference in rebounding with a 6.8 per game average. Johnson has reached double figures in scoring in five games this season and she scored a season-high 23 points versus Wayne State in the Beavers last game.

Senior Kristal Flowers ranks second in the NSIC shooting 59.4 percent from the floor and third in the conference averaging 9.5 rebounds per contest. She has reached double figures in scoring in six games this season and leads Minot State with three double-doubles. Flowers also ranks second on the team averaging 11.1 points per game and is second on the team with three blocked shots.

Junior Madison Wald is also averaging in double figures for the Beavers as she is third on the squad with a 10.6 per game average. She scored a season-high 18 points versus Dickinson State and also posted double figures in scoring against Jamestown (15) and Mary (17).

Mary, which is 4-7 overall and 0-5 in league play, will also be looking to end a four-game losing streak. Gabbie Bohl leads the Marauders averaging 18.7 points per game, while Cassie Askvig (13.3) and Lauren Rotunda (12.0) also average in double figures for Mary.

In the first meeting between the two teams Flowers led the Beavers to the victory with a dominating performance. She scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds to pace Minot State in the 72-62 win.

Minot State trailed 15-9 after the first quarter, but outscored the Marauders 20-11 in the second quarter to take a 29-26 lead into halftime. The Beavers held a 60-58 lead with 3:36 to play, but outscored Mary 12-4 for the remainder of the game to pull away from the Marauders.
