Beavers Take Five-Game Win Streak on the Road

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's basketball team begins a four-game roadtrip in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this weekend, as the Beavers face Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. on Friday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. before facing Sioux Falls on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Minot State is 8-8 in NSIC Play and 11-9 on the season after sweeping Winona State (76-50) and Upper Iowa (85-57) at home last weekend.

The current five-game conference winning streak is the longest streak the Beavers have recorded in conference play since joining the NSIC.

Minot State is 9-1 on the season when scoring 70 or more points, including 3-0 when surpassing the 80-point mark.

Holly Johnson leads the Beavers in scoring with 16.4 points per game while grabbing 5.9 rebounds per game.

Senior Kristal Flowers has posted six double-doubles this season and averages 10.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

Madison Wald is scoring 10.6 points per game, followed by Mariah Payne and Diondra Denton with 8.3 and 8.1 points per game, respectively.

Payne leads the team with 55 assists and Denton has posted a team-high 26 steals while Flowers leads the team with 10 blocks.

Scouting the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs

Southwest Minnesota State enters Friday night's game with a 4-1 (3-13 NSIC) record on the season. Caleigh Rodning and Erin Baxter lead the Mustang offense with 12.9 and 11.1 points per game, respectively. Rodning leads the team with 7.6 rebounds per game while Abuk Akoi ranks sixth in the NSIC with 1.6 blocks per game.

The Mustangs are scoring 63.4 points per game while shooting 36.8 percent from the floor and 75.1 percent from the free throw line. Southwest Minnesota State is grabbing 38.1 rebounds and dishing out 10.1 assists per game while recording 6.6 steals and 3.9 blocks per game on the defensive end. Opponents are scoring 72.4 points per game and shooting 41 percent from the field against the Mustangs.

Head coach Tom Webb is in his second season leading the Mustangs with a record of 7-39 and has a career record of 98-162 in 10 years.

Minot State vs. Southwest Minnesota State

The all-time series between Minot State and Southwest Minnesota State is tied up at three wins apiece. The Mustangs posted a 52-41 victory over the Beavers in Minot, N.D. in their last meeting on Feb. 3, 2017.

Scouting the Sioux Falls Cougars

Sioux Falls comes into the weekend with a 13-7 (10-6 NSIC) record on the season. Kaely Hummel leads a trio of Cougars scoring in double-figures for Sioux Falls with a team-high 16.6 points per game. Jasmine Harris and Mariah Szymanski are scoring 13.0 and 11.3 points per game, respectively, while Jacey Huinker ranks second in the NSIC in rebounding with 10.3 rebounds per game.

The Cougars are outscoring opponents by an average of 66.0 to 60.3 while shooting 39.6 percent from the field and 70.4 percent from the free throw line. Sioux Falls is limiting opponents to 37.2 percent shooting from the floor while forcing 15.2 turnovers per game.

Head coach Travis Traphagen is in his 10th season at Sioux Falls and has posted a career record of 191-98.

Minot State vs. Sioux Falls

Saturday's game marks the 12th overall meeting between Sioux Falls and Minot State with the Cougars leading the all-time series, 7-4. In their last meeting, Sioux Falls defeated Minot State 61-58 in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Feb. 4, 2017.
