Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Minot State Battled Throughout, but Fell 3-1

(Bemidji, Minn.) -- The Minot State University Volleyball team battled throughout the match but fell to Bemidji State University in four sets 25-19, 25-18, 25-22, 25-14.

On the first play of the match, Bemidji, Minn. native Emily Falldorf, led off the match with a kill creating a 1-0 lead. When the score was tied 4-4, Bemidji State's Maddie Mackinac played a big part in a 6-0 run for BSU to give Bemidji the early lead 10-4. For Minot State, freshman outside hitter Caitlyn Messner saw her first action on the court of her college career and had her first career kill. Minot State went on a late 5-0 run at the end of the set constructed by senior Shelby Spuller with two kills, but that was not enough to close the gap as Bemidji State won the first set 25-19.

The second set started very competitively, with the score being 9-7, Bemidji. Minot State went on a 4-0 run, led by Falldorf with two blocks that gave MSU the 11-9 lead. Bemidji answered back with a kill. Minot State would answer with a 4-0 run with three kills coming from Spuller. At that point, Minot State led 15-10. MSU went on another major run to put this match out of reach. This time it was a 5-0 run. Spuller had two kills, and Falldorf contributed a service ace on the run. Minot State went on to win the second set 25-18.

The third set became a battle with several lead changes. Bemidji State took the early 4-0 lead, but Minot State continued to fight to tie the score 9-9, with the help of aces from Karli Koza and Spuller, a pair of attack errors from Bemidji. From there, Minot took the lead four times, but Bemidji would continue to answer back. At 22-22 Bemidji went ahead, produced two kills and a service ace to win the third set 25-22.

Bemidji carried the momentum from the end of the third set into the fourth set, where Bemidji State had control. Minot State never got any momentum going, which led to Bemidji State closing out the set 25-14 and taking the match three sets to one.
