(Minot, N.D.) -- The Minot State Volleyball team competed for the entire match but could not come up with a win vs. Northern State, falling 25-13, 25-20, 25-15. Â
At the beginning of the first set, Minot State was down 4-2, when Northern State went on a 4-0 run led by senior libero Jaiden Langlie with two service aces making the score 8-2, expanding their lead to 8-2. As play continued, the Wolves put together another run where they scored five straight points making the score 19-9, Northern State. The Wolves went on to win the set 25-13, Shelby Spuller led the Beavers in kills this set with five and had a total of eight in the match. Â
In the second set, the Beavers went on an early 3-0 run at the beginning of the set to take the early lead. The Beavers continued to hold the lead until the Wolves went on a 5-0 run, tying the score 14-14. Spuller and senior Hayley Swain contributed a kill each to help Minot State get back in front, 18-16. The Wolves answered back with a 5-0 run and then a 3-0 run to go on and win a closely contested second set 25-20. Freshman Caitlyn Messner and Swain each had three kills during the set and helped make the second set competitive.Â
The third set started competitively with the score tied at 6-6, but the Beavers eventually would run out of gas, and the Wolves would go on a pair of runs leading to them taking the third set 25-15 and winning the match. Junior libero Karli Koza produced a service ace for the Beavers, and senior outside hitter Emily Falldorf led the team in kills this set with four. Â
