Minot State Wins a Set but Loses to #17 Winona State

(Winona, Minn.) -- The Minot State University volleyball team lost to #17 Winona State on the road Saturday afternoon. The Beavers were able to win a set but fell 3-1 by scores of 25-23, 15-25, 16-25, 17-25.  
 
At the beginning of the first set, the Beavers got a pair of kills from senior Shelby Spuller and Emily Falldorf. This allowed for the Beavers to take an early 4-2 lead. Winona State answered back with a 3-0 run to tie the score 9-9. The Warriors continued their momentum and went on multiple runs to take the lead 20-14. The Beavers did not fold as they answered back with a crucial 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 20-19. Winona State answered again, expanding the lead to 23-19. Senior Shae Pedersen produced two service aces and helped the Beavers go on a 6-0 run to win the first set, 25-23.  
 
At the beginning of the second set, Winona State came out aggressive and was in the lead 5-3. Throughout the set, every time Minot State scored Winona State would answer, increasing the margin and not letting Minot State have a chance to get back into the set. The Warriors went on to win the second set 25-15.  
 
The Warriors and Beavers were battling at the beginning of the third set, with the Warriors taking an early 6-5 lead. The Warriors went on a 6-0 run to expand their lead to 12-5. Spuller contributed four kills, and Falldorf inserted three kills to help reduce the deficit to 20-15. The Warriors would go on a 5-1 run to eventually take the set 25-16.  
The Warrior continued to play well, making it hard for the Beavers to take the lead in the fourth set. Minot State did go on a 4-0 run to pull within two points. However, the Warriors answered back with a 5-0 run of their own, increasing the lead. The Warriors maintained the lead and went on to win the fourth set 25-17 and win the match 3-1/

Minot State will travel to Bismarck, N.D., to battle in-state rival UMary on Oct. 31, starting at 6:00 p.m. During the same week, Minot State will play MSU Moorhead on Nov. 2 at home beginning at 11:00 a.m.
