Beaver Women's Basketball to Open NSIC Play

(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State women's basketball team is set to open up NSIC play tomorrow afternoon when they host rival UMary at the MSU Dome. The Beavers and Marauders will tip off at 3:30 p.m.

Minot State is coming off a 71-57 victory over Valley City State on Tuesday and currently have a record of 3-1.
 
Series History 
  • The Beavers and Marauders have squared off annually since the 1973-74 season with UMary leading the all-time series 51-38.
  • UMary won the most recent game when they defeated the Beavers 67-58 a season ago.
  • The Marauders are currently on a three-game winning streak.
  • Minot State has not beaten UMary since a 72-62 win in 2017.
  • The Beavers also won the first match-up on record between the two teams by a score of 65-32 in the 1973-74 conference tournament.
 
Beaver Tracks 
 
  • Mariah Payne leads the Beavers in scoring with an average of 17.7 ppg.
  • Center Anna Counts is the only other MSU player that averages double-digit points at 10.0.
  • Forward Calli Delsman leads the team on the glass with 27 total rebounds. Counts follows her with 25 and senior Reina Strand is the third Beaver with 20+ rebounds on the season with 21.
  • Delsman and Bethany Theodore each have 16 assists to pace the Beavers. Theodore also leads the squad in three-point shooting percentage at 50%.
  • Forward Haley Hildenbrand has been the most efficient shooter with a field goal percentage of 77%.
 
Scouting Report 
  • The UMary Maraduers will bring a 6-3 record to Minot tomorrow.
  • The Marauders have been explosive on offense this season as they average nearly 80 points per game.
  • Three Marauders boast double-digit scoring averages. Cassie Askvig (20.0), Lexie Schneider (11.6), and Coral Gillette (11.1) lead the UMary offense.
  • Schneider has been the most consistent scorer as she has a field goal rate of 59% and leads the team in rebounds with 81 total boards.
  • Askvig and Lauren Rotunda have also collected 50+ rebounds.
  • Rotunda has recorded a team-high seven blocks.
  • Guard Christal Hearn has been a nuisance defensively with 20 steals.
  • As a team, the Marauders have scored over 100 points once already this season when they throttled Presentation College 110-52 (11/12).
