Soccer Season Ends in Loss at UMary

(BISMARCK, N.D.) – The Minot State soccer team finished their 2019 season with a 2-1 loss at rival UMary this afternoon.

The Beavers drew first blood in the 36th-minute via a Melanie van Walstijn's second score of the season from an assist by Sheneill Lymer.

UMary retaliated quickly scoring the equalizer thirty seconds later. Emma Davies assisted Maureen Sullivan for the Marauders' first goal of the game.

After the half, Davies scored what would eventually be the game-winning goal for UMary on an unassisted shot in the 49th-minute. That score stood for the remainder of the contest as it ended 2-1 in favor of the Marauders.

For Minot State, van Walstijn added another shot to her goal. Sofia Lewis tallied three total shots while Anabel Noches made two.

A plethora of Marauders were active on offense. Davies finished with one goal and one assist. Sidney Burrell made three shots with two on goal. Seven other UMary players recorded at least one shot.

In goal, Erin Rafferty made eight saves in her final game as a Beaver. For UMary, Madisyn Waltman allowed just the one goal and made two saves.

With the loss, the Beavers' season officially came to an end with records of 3-15-0 overall and 3-12-0 in league play. The Marauders will add a win to their records to reach marks of 11-4-2 overall and 9-4-2 in the NSIC.

UMary will be competing in the NSIC Tournament at a time and date yet to be determined.
