MINOT, N.D. – Consistent hitting and strong defense paced the Minot State softball team to a pair of run-rule victories as the Beavers won 11-3 in five innings against Minnesota Crookston before defeating Dickinson State 9-1 in five innings on Saturday afternoon in the Air-Supported Dome.
With the sweep, the Beavers improve to 8-5 on the season.
Game One: Minot State 11, Minnesota Crookston 3 (F/5)
How It Happened
- Lauren Cowden opened the scoring after reaching home plate on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning.
- Haley Hernandez walked and scored on a UMC error before Randi Wright touched home on an RBI single from Maggie Mercer to left field.
- Kiera Shwaluk also scored on a Golden Eagle error before Karlee Coughlin's RBI single up the middle scored Cowden.
- The Beavers added two runs in the third inning when Hernandez blasted an RBI double to right center and later came around to score on a fielder's choice.
- Back-to-back RBI triples by Alina Gonzalez and Julia Suchan helped push the Minot State lead to 11-0 in the top of the fourth.
- Minnesota Crookston scored three runs on three hits and a Minot State error in the bottom of the fourth inning.

How It Happened
- Maggie Mercer opened the game with a double and scored on an RBI single from Coughlin to give Minot State a 1-0 advantage in the first inning.
- Shwaluk hit an infield RBI single before Cowden smacked a two-RBI triple to left field to extend the Minot State lead.
- Coughlin followed with an RBI double to score Cowden and stretch Minot State's lead to 5-0.
- A pair of RBI singles from Mercer and Cowden and an RBI double by Gonzalez gave the Beavers an 8-0 lead after four innings.
- The Blue Hawks scored a run in the top of the fifth to put a halt to the shutout victory.
- Minot State got the run back in the bottom half of the inning when Mercer's single up the middle scored Melissa Estrada from second base.

- Mercer went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBIs.
