(Minot, N.D.) -- The Minot State University Soccer team won it's first match today as the Beavers took down Northern State University 1-0. 

Coming into the match, the Beavers had an aggressive mindset in the match. Northern State was 2-2 coming into the game. The Minot State aggression showed early as the Beavers pressed early, and scored their first goal of the season in the 12th minute. Freshman forward Anabel Noches scored her first career goal taking the shot from the lower right part of the box and sliding it into the net. Melanie van Walstijn assisted on the goal.

For the most part, the Beavers dominated possession and had much better scoring chances throughout the first half.

In the second half, it was a battle with both teams taking seven shots. The Beavers had three shots on goal, and the Wolves had 4. The Wolves had five corner kicks in the second half and 12 in the game, but the Beavers defense was able to hold steady, despite a couple of tense moments, they held on to the clean sheet.

GAME NOTES
Anabel Noches scored the first goal in her collegiate career...Melanie van Walstijn had an assist on the goal…Erin Rafferty recorded a clean sheet, her first of the year, and 17th of her four-year career.

The Minot State University soccer team will be on the road next weekend as they travel to Wayne State on Friday, the match begins at 1:00 p.m. They will end their two-game road trip at Sioux Falls, S.D., as they face Augustana University at 1:00 p.m.
