(CROOKSTON, Minn.) -- The Beaver offense was virtually unstoppable on Saturday night, allowing for them to continue their dominance over Minnesota Crookston. The win expanded their win streak to three, their streak over Minnesota Crookston to 16, and gave the Beavers a weekend road sweep.
Both teams started the first half virtually unstoppable offensively as it appeared neither side would be stopped, and we would be in for a high scoring barnburner. The Beavers started the game off on a 10-3 run. Minnesota Crookston battled back into it, trailing by one, 12-11. At the first media timeout, the Beavers held a 15-11 lead. The teams would fight through the next several minutes with neither offense going cold. At the 10-minute media timeout, the Beavers held a 32-29 lead. Out of that, the Beavers would score nine straight points, taking a 41-29 lead. With 4:25 to play,
Kyle Beisch continued his phenomenal first half, giving the Beavers their largest lead of the game 45-31 after a layup. A
Sam Ohlrich three, assisted by Beisch, would expand the lead to 48-32. Going into halftime, the Beavers led 53-38. Offensively the Beavers were nearly unstoppable, shooting 65.2 (21-32) percent. The Beavers has 20 points in the paint to just six by UMC. The Beavers also dominated on the glass, 20-10. Beisch had 17 points and six assists in the first half.
The second half did not start as well for the Beavers, as they turned it over four straight possessions to start. Harrison Cleary led the Golden Eagles to a 9-0 run cutting the Beaver lead to 53-47, forcing a Minot State timeout. Out of the timeout, the Beavers were not able to keep control of the ball, turning it over two more times on back-to-back possessions. The Beavers hot shooting would continue after the run of turnovers with
Max Cody hitting a floater in the lane to give the Beavers a 55-49 lead. A Minnesota Crookston three-pointer went through, briefly cutting the Beaver lead to 55-52. However, the shot went under review, and it was determined that the shot would not count as it was a shot clock violation. The score would stay 55-49. This would work in favor of the Beavers as they would outscore the Golden Eagles 5-1 going into the media timeout at 14:52 to lead 60-50. Continued turnovers by the Beaver offense would allow Crookston to stay within reach. However, UMC would not be able to take advantage as another 6-0 run would give the Beavers a 68-52 lead forcing a Minnesota Crookston timeout with 10:25 to play. The timeout would not cool off the Beavers as Cody would hit a three after the timeout. All told the Beaver run would be 17-3. The Beavers would stay in control, leading 79-62 with 4:29 to play.
The Beavers were dominant in almost every aspect of this game. As a team, the Beavers shot 67.3 (35-52) percent from the field and 64.3 (9-14) percent from the three-point arc. The Beavers won the rebounding battle 39-20 and decimated Minnesota Crookston on points in the paint to the tune of 36-14.
Kyle Beisch was one of many players who had phenomenal games for the Beavers. He scored 28 points on 11-13 shooting and 3-5 from the three-point arc. He also was distributing well, adding nine assists.
Max Cody was also great, scoring 22 points on 7-14 shooting. He added seven assists and six rebounds.
Kody Dwyer was the third and final double-digit scorer, as he was a force in the paint all night long, scoring 19 points, and tying with
Stephane Manzi for the team lead with seven rebounds.
