ABERDEEN, SD --The Minot State men's basketball team knocked down 10-of-21 attempts from beyond the arc, shooting 47.6 percent from deep in a 75-64 loss to No. 2 nationally-ranked Northern State Wolves on the road Saturday.
The Beavers (6-6, 4-4) had three players score in double figures, led by
Melvin Newbern, who had 15 points and two steals.
Cam'ron Dunfee tacked on 15 points and
Kody Dwyer chipped in as well with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Minot State offense was very productive from deep, making 10 threes on 21 attempts. Dunfee was the most prolific shooter for the Beavers, draining five treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 14-6, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 13:52 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Dwyer, to tie the game at 14. Northern State then pulled ahead, sending the Beavers into halftime down 38-30.
Northern State (14-0, 12-0) kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 55-38 advantage before Minot State went on a 10-0 run, finished off by Newbern's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 55-48 with 9:21 to go in the contest. Northern State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 75-64. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 34 points.
