BILLINGS, Mont. – The Minot State women's soccer team traveled to Montana State Billings for the second matchup of the 2021 Spring season against the Yellowjackets. MSUB defeated the Beavers 4-1 to split the season series.
The Jackets dominated from start to finish with two early scores. Lexie Bloyder netted an unassisted goal in the third-minute to put MSUB in front. Later in the first half, Izzy Menning followed suit and extended the Yellowjackets' lead to 2-0 with a 14
th-minute goal.
Minot State cut the deficit in half, though, when
Sofia Lewis scored just before halftime.
Melanie van Walstijn assisted Lewis on what would end up being the only goal Minot State could muster.
In the second half, Menning scored her second goal of the game (52'), and second of the season, when she struck one to the center of the net.
Finally, Vendela Andersson delivered the dagger for MSUB with the help of Kelsey Hogan. Andersson scored the fourth and final goal of the game to reach the mark of 4-1.
Mackenzie Long got the start in goal for Minot State. She played all 90 minutes and allowed all four Yellowjacket goals. Long also recorded five saves.
MSU Billings' keeper, Clare Keenan, also played the entirety while allowing just one goal and saving seven shots.
The Beavers will be back on the pitch for another road match at UMary in Bismarck on Monday, April 12 at 6 p.m.
