Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Beavers fall in season-opener to Regis

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State woman's soccer team just could never get their offense in motion as they suffered a season-opening setback to the Regis Rangers on Friday at Herb Parker Stadium.

"Our passing was off, our transition was off, a lack of focus on set pieces," Beaver soccer head coach Chris Clements said. "If you don't play two complete halves, you don't win games."

The Beavers, now 0-1-0 overall, struggled out of the gate trying to contain the Rangers offense as they couldn't seem to pry the ball away from them. The Rangers struck first as they had a free kick set up, which took an unfortunate bounce off of a Beaver defender right into the net at the 5:06 mark.

Regis increased their lead at the 19:34 mark as a goal by the Rangers' Casey Lavin bounced over MSU goaltender Maddie Kindred's (JR/Soldotna, Alaska) head and into the net. The Rangers finished out the half with a 3-0 lead off of a goal by Ella Palmer at the 22:19 mark.

The Beavers came out aggressively to start the second half and it paid off as the Brit Chloe Allan (JR/Barnard Castle, United Kingdom) was able to strike gold and get the Beavers on the board at the 52:39 mark, with an assist to Tiffany Schennum (R-FR/Yorba Linda, Calif.).

Unfortunately, the Beavers weren't able to maintain their aggressive style coming out of the half as the Rangers did a good job of playing keep away from the Minot State defenders following the Beavers lone goal of the night.

The shots on goal were fairly even as the Rangers finished the night with 13 and the Beavers took nine shots.

The Beavers will look to bounce back this next weekend as they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to take on the Westminster College Griffins on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, Sept. 11, the Beavers also play in Salt Lake City as they will take on the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa at 1:30 p.m.
