MINOT, N.D.- The Minot State men's wrestling team earned its first team win of the season in a 21-14 victory over the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs.
The SMSU Mustangs took the opening dual of the day as Jackson Stauffacher defeated
Oscar Nellis by a 7-4 decision. MSU tied it back up thanks to heroics by
Brandon Meikel in his 3-2 edge over Hunter Pfantz. SMSU went back in control when Justin Sampson defeated
Lincoln Stormer by an 8-5 decision. The Beavers then went on a streak to try and put the dual out of reach as
Shadi Mitwalli defeated Bobby Shields by a 6-1 decision, followed by
Nathan Baca sneaking past Lucas Hodges with a 2-0 decision, and
Cannon Potts securing the 5-1 victory over Nathan Moore. SMSU took the next two duals to go up 14-12 thanks to Carter Marx defeating
Austin Frantzich in a 3-1 decision, and ranked Caden Steffen taking the technical fall by a 20-5 score with 58 secons left in the 3
rd period over
Joey Lopez. The Beavers secured the victory winning the last two matches to get their first win of the season.
Keegan Berry defeated Dillon McEachran in a hard fought battle with a fall with 29 seconds left in the 3
rd period and lastly
Jordan Will defeated Jacob Dykes skimming by with a 2-0 decision.
MSU will head back to the mats as they continue their homestand with their final conference home dual against 15
th ranked Augustana Saturday February 5
th at 2 p.m. They'll concluded their home duals of the season with a showdown against in-state rival the Dickinson State Blue Hawks on Wednesday February 9
th at 7 p.m. for senior night.
