MSU come up short in a 33-22 loss to Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa -- Minot State fell 33-22 to Upper Iowa on the road Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.

The Upper Iowa improved to 1-7 on the year while the Beavers fell to 0-8 overall.

Ali Mohamed totaled 75 yards to lead the MSU's ground attack and added one touchdown in the game. Evan Lovett also tacked on 36 yards and one touchdown on the ground, picking up 4 yards per carry.

Nathan Young reeled in four catches for 48 yards.

Carson Cayko led the Minot State defense with seven tackles, including one for a loss, while Minot State's defense held up against Upper Iowa's offense, allowing just 318 total yards.

How It Happened

Minot State scored first and opened a 3-0 lead with 9:23 remaining in the first quarter on a 32-yard Dillon Fedor field goal.

Upper Iowa then scored to take a 14-3 lead before the MSU put a touchdown on the board to cut into the lead and make it a 14-10 game.

After Upper Iowa scored to expand its lead to 20-10, Minot State scored again with 9:47 left in the third quarter to narrow the advantage and make it a 20-13 game.

Upper Iowa scored to increase its lead to 26-13 before the MSU got on the scoreboard again with a safety, then later with Lovett's touchdown to close the gap and make it a 33-22 game. Neither team scored again in the game.
