JAMESTOWN, N.D. –
Landyn Cochrane scored both goals and
Jake Anthony turned aside all 30 shots he faced as the top-ranked Minot State hockey team skated to its first shutout of the season, blanking host Jamestown 2-0 in the North Dakota rivals third meeting of the young season.
Cochrane scored with 4 minutes, 35 seconds left in the second period, the first goal of the night for either team, then he added an insurance goal 4:51 into the second period.
That proved plenty of offense for Anthony who recorded the fourth shutout of his collegiate career in the win, which was the Beavers (7-0-0 overall) third already this season against the 10
th-ranked Jimmies (4-3-0).
The two teams face off again Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at the Maysa Arena in Minot, N.D., continuing a season-long series between the North Dakota rivals.
Carter Barley and
Drew Carter assisted on Cochrane's second-period game winner, and
Jay Buchholz and
Eric Soar assisted on his third-period goal.
