BOTTINEAU, N.D. – Minot State goalie
Morgan Baker padded her career stats with her third shutout in her fourth collegiate game as the Minot State women's hockey team skated past in-state foe Dakota College of Bottineau 4-0 for the second straight day.
Baker made seven saves in the shutout, an easy night's work as her team dominated and outshot the host Jacks, 46-7.
And the Beavers (15-6-1 overall) put four of those shots in the net, two in the second period and two more in the third for the win.
Makena Welby ended up with the game-winner, opening the scoring 2 minutes, 16 seconds into the second period as she scored off an assist by
Sydney Spicer.
Just 5:20 later, the Beavers made it 2-0 as
Ensley Fendelet scored a power-play goal off assists from
Aspen Cooper and
Riley Ball.
The Beavers kept working hard and eventually stretched the lead early in the third as
Makenna Beard scored an unassisted goal with 16:32 left in the contest, then
Jordan Kulbida iced the win with another unassisted goal, this one on the power play once again, with 7:02 remaining.
Riding the momentum of the weekend sweep, the Beavers now hit the road for their biggest series of the season as they head to Virginia to play the two-time defending National Champions and No. 1-ranked Liberty Flames on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
