MINOT, N.D. – Friday, the second-year Minot State women's wrestling team got to show off how much the program has grown.
Battling all day long, the Beavers won 3-of-4 dual matches as they hosted the 2
nd annual Beaver Bash Duals at the MSU Dome with the duo of
Bella Hernandez, at 130 pounds, and
Julia Petryna, at 116 pounds, leading the way as both went undefeated on the day.
Krystal Corona (109),
Keela Kary (136), and
Michelle Klein (171) added a win and two forfeit victories, each, and
Nina Sandoval (155) added a pair of wins on the mats to help lead that way for the Beavers.
Minot State scored a 39-0 win over Northland Community and Technical College to start its day, then after a close 22-19 win over Saskatchewan, the Beavers split in-state foes Dickinson State and Jamestown, falling 27-22 to the Blue Hawks and beating the Jimmies 30-14.
Hernandez, who received a forfeit against Northland, picked up three wins on the mats to lead the Beavers as she scored a thrilling 8-7 decision over Caitlin Clatney of Saskatchewan, won by pin 1:01 into the second round over Dickinson State's Mikayla Jardine, and wrapped up her day with a win by pin in 2:45 over Jamestown's Samantha Weeks.
Petryna won by technical fall over Makenzie Shaw of Dickinson State, 12-1, and received three forfeits, while Sandoval earned a 10-0 technical fall victory over Arionna Beatty of Northland and a 6-1 decision over Myah Clatney of Saskatchewan.
Corona added a win by pin 44 seconds into her 109-pound match with Kaylee LaPier from Dickinson State and collected two forfeit victories, Kary won by pin over Riley Rangle of Jamestown in 2:17 in their 136-pound match and also collected two forfeit victories, and Klein won by pin with 42 seconds left in her match with Jamestown's Hannah Sjostrom at 171 pounds, and collected two forfeits,.
Jazmin Gorder (123) added a 16-10 decision win over Lafediya Eldridge of Dickinson State and collected a forfeit, and
Haleigh Lematta won by pin in 54 seconds over Northland's Shelby Sherman at 143 pounds, and collected a forfeit,
Ari Korish (123) won by technical fall 10-0 over Jamestown's Destiny Walsh, and
Trinity Boivin added a 14-8 extra-match win at 130 pounds, also over Jamestown's Destiny Walsh.
Having made a successful home debut, the Minot State women's wrestling team now is back on the road after the Thanksgiving break as they compete in a dual at Jamestown on Nov. 27.
