MINOT, N.D. – The Beavers showed no signs of turkey fatigue on Saturday, dominating in their home debut at the MSU Dome.
Led by senior guard Ben Bohl who went off for a career-high 26 points, the Minot State men's basketball team rolled to a 99-58 victory over in-state foe Jamestown in a non-conference contest.
The game was the first between the two programs since November 2016, but will become a regular event as the NSIC just invented Jamestown to become the league's 16th member starting with the 2025-26 season.
The Beavers (4-1 overall, 1-0 NSIC) had five players score in double figures, led by Bohl's 26 points. Khari Broadway added 12 points and six rebounds and Caleb Van De Griend chipped in as well with 11 points from the bench.
"It felt good, I got some pretty open looks and my teammates shared the ball, and they happen to go in today," Bohl said of his career-high performance.
Minot State did a stellar job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 19 assists while turning the ball over eight times. Individually, Jaxon Gunville dished out the most for the Beavers with five assists.
Minot State's defense held Jamestown to only 34.5 percent shooting from the field, including 30 percent from beyond the arc. The Jimmies did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with three offensive rebounds and managed zero second-chance points while Minot State cleared 29 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After falling behind 4-0, Minot State went on a 9-0 run with 18:07 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Van De Griend, to take a 9-4 lead. The Beavers then added seven points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 42-30 advantage. Minot State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 42 points.
Following intermission, Minot State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 65-43 before going on a 10-0 run, finished off by Kameron Givens' layup, to grow the lead to 75-43 with 10:20 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 99-58 win. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting eight shots from deep to score 24 of its 57 points.
