MINOT, N.D. – The North Dakota tour continues for the Minot State women's hockey team. Following a breakout series versus Jamestown, a weekend sweep of the Jimmies is just what the doctor ordered for the Beavers as they head into their next matchup. On deck for Minot State are the Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks in a home-and-home.
The 8
th-ranked Beavers (7-9-0) will play the Lumberjacks (4-3-0) once at the Maysa Arena and once at the Lumberdome. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. in Minot, and 2:00 p.m. in Bottineau.
Minot State looks to push their winning streak further after finding success in Jamestown last weekend. The Beavers are coming off a 2-0 win, with hopes of keeping the momentum rolling.
Bottineau enters this weekend after a shaky finish versus ACC over the Thanksgiving break, falling 7-0. However, the Lumberjacks combined for 13 goals scored in two games prior to their matchup with ACC.
The Lumberjacks are led in scoring by forward Jenesha Hammond, with 10 points in eight games played. Pacing the Jacks in goals from the back end is Trinity Tanner, with five of them.
Just like Jamestown, efforts in net for DCB are split. Kara Zelyck has the most time in the crease, appearing in five games while recording a 3.00 goals-against average and .927 save percentage. Next up for Bottineau is Skyla Louttit. In four games played, she carries a 2.51 goals-against average and .938 save percentage.
There remains an equal opportunity when it comes to scoring for the Beavers.
Paige Ackerman leads the team in points with nine in 16 games played.
Aspen Cooper and
Gillian Gervin are tied for the lead in goals with four a piece.
Even though
Haylie Biever remains the number one option,
Morgan Baker has stepped up in net during her absence because of injury. While Biever's availability is unknown for this weekend, it is important to note that Baker added two more wins to her resume and improved her numbers to a 1.06 goals-against average and .952 save percentage. If Biever is able to go, that is a little extra goodness to sweeten the pot for head coach
Ryan Miner and company.
This is the first meeting between these two teams in the 2023-24 season. Dating back to late 2020, the Beavers have strung together a stretch of wins against the Lumberjacks. Minot State took all six previous meetings versus DCB, the most recent being a 4-0 result in Bottineau earlier this year back on January 21.
The Beavers face Dakota College at Bottineau for a home-and-home series this weekend. After that, they return to Jamestown to take on the Jimmies once again in another two-game set. That matchup is set to begin in the second weekend of December.
