Minot State rallies behind 3-point barrage for 77-72 overtime win over Northern State

MINOT, ND --
The Minot State men's basketball team went into the halftime break trailing Northern State 36-28, but rallied from the deficit to tie the game at 70-70, force overtime and eventually defeat the Wolves 77-72 at the MSU Dome on Thursday in NSIC action.

The Beavers (8-2 overall, 4-1 NSIC) had three players score in double figures, led by Jaxon Gunville, who had 21 points. Michael Jok tacked on 19 points and six rebounds and Ben Bohl helped out with 13 points.

The Minot State offense was impressive from downtown, knocking down 10 threes on 21 attempts. Gunville hit seven treys for the Beavers in the contest, all in the second half.

"I think just seeing the first one go through it helps open the hoop up and stuff and makes the hoop look really big," said Minot State's junior guard said.

"And my teammates did a great job of setting screens for me and getting me open, just as much credit to them to get me open, get me good passes and stuff because it's not just the one man thing."

The Minot State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Thursday's game, forcing 13 Northern State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Jalen Cook led the way individually for the Beavers with three steals.

How It Happened

The Wolves then fought back to even things up at 70-70 and send the game to overtime. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting eight shots from deep to score 24 of its 42 points.
