Minot State shoots 42.3 percent from deep in 74-71 loss to Northern State

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The Minot State men's basketball team hit 11-of-26 attempts from beyond the arc, shooting 42.3 percent from deep in a 74-71 loss to the Northern State Wolves on the road Saturday in NSIC play.

The game was the season finale for both teams who now head to the NSIC Tournament. The Beavers will be the fifth seed from the North Division and play Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Southwest Minnesota State.
 

The Beavers (10-16 overall, 7-15 NSIC) had two players score in double figures, led by Cam'ron Dunfee, who had 18 points. Khari Broadway tacked on 12 points and Jalen Cook added nine points.


The Minot State offense was very productive from three-point land, pouring in 11 threes on 26 attempts. Jaxon Gunville was the most prolific shooter for the Beavers, draining three treys in the contest.


The Minot State defense held Northern State shooters to just 40 percent from the field, including 29.6 percent from three-point range.


How It Happened

After falling behind 19-12, Minot State went on a 9-0 run with 12:59 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Ben Bohl, to take a 21-19 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 38-33.


Northern State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 60-46 advantage before Minot State went on a 14-0 run, finished off by Cook's three, to even the score at 60 all with 6:41 to go in the contest. The Beavers could not turn their rally into a victory, as the Wolves outscored them 14-11 the rest of the way to hand Minot State the 74-71 loss. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting eight shots from deep to score 24 of its 38 points.
