MINOT, N.D. – Minot State's duo of
Wayne Joint and
Jake Swirple led the way Thursday night with wins for the Beavers, but in the end the 4
th-ranked Augustana Vikings won the teams' dual 37-8 in an NSIC battle at the MSU Dome.
Minot State now is quickly back in action as part of the wrestling extravaganza at the Minot Municipal Auditorium on Friday as the Beavers (6-7 duals, 2-4 NSIC) host Sioux Falls as 7 p.m.
Thursday against the Vikings, the head-to-head dual started off even as the Vikings took the first match before Joint evened the team score with a 10-2 major decision victory in his 133-pound match.
All even at 4-4, though, the match swung the Vikings way as a tech fall and a pin built momentum and started a streak of seven straight wins that Minot State could not turn back until the final match at heavyweight.
In that 285-pound bout, Swirple took control early and rolled to his own major victory, 11-1, giving Minot State its final win of the evening.
