Cook scores 22 as Beavers roll to victory over Mary

BISMARCK, ND – It was another all-around stellar output by the Minot State men's basketball team at McDowell Activity Center in Bismarck.

Jalen Cook totaled 22 points as the Beavers won over the Mary Marauders 89-62 on the road Wednesday.

Cook added 8 rebounds and 3 assists to his 22-point game to lead the Beavers (12-0, 4-0 NSIC). Caleb Van De Griend helped out with a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Ayouba Berthe chipped in with 15 points.

Minot State utilized fantastic ball movement in Wednesday's game, piling up 18 assists on 35 made field goals. Individually, Jaxon Gunville was on top of the distribution list for the Beavers with 5 assists.

Minot State's defense held Mary to only 37 percent shooting from the field. The Marauders did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with 8 offensive rebounds and managed 4 second chance points while Minot State cleared 31 defensive rebounds.
 
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 10-7 advantage, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 15:22 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Cook, to increase its lead to 17-7. The Beavers then kept adding to that lead by the end of the frame and entered halftime with a 42-30 advantage as Mary started to show signs of life. Minot State took advantage of 5 offensive rebounds to score 7 second chance points out of 42 total in the half.

Following intermission, Minot State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 46-33 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Gunville's layup, to grow the lead to 54-33 with 17:46 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept pouring on to the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 89-62 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 47 points in the lane.
