MINOT, N.D. – The Beavers opened their NSIC season with an all-time best 6-0 start, and now look to continue their hot play against their in-state rival the University of Mary.
The Marauders (7-21 overall, 0-6 NSIC) visit the Minot State campus Tuesday, April 2, and the Beavers (11-9, 6-2) will look to stretch a 13-game win streak against Mary when the teams play an NSIC doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. in "The Bubble."
That win streak doesn't mean the Beavers will be overconfident, though, as Minot State will be looking to shake off a pair of losses Saturday which interrupted Minot State's perfect league season. Still tied for third, Minot State looks to restart its winning ways as they chase an NSIC title.
Key for the Beavers has been overall team play as the pitching staff has a 2.53 team ERA and features four pitchers each with a win in multiple starts. Senior
Gabi Dawyduk continues to lead the way with a 4-4 record and 1.63 ERA, while
Reegan Floyd and
Kierra Fournier each have 3 wins.
Offensively, the Beavers are hitting .279 but have 10 players hitting over .300 this season led by
Brooklyn Morrison who is hitting .360 with a team-high 2 home runs, while
Taryn Bennett leads the team in RBIs with 19 and is hitting .321, and
Abby Lohse has 2 home runs, 11 RBIs, and is batting .317.
As for the Marauders, offensively they hit .250 as a team and average just under 3 runs a game (2.93), while the Mary pitchers have a 5.44 team ERA and average just over 2 strikeouts (57 in 28 games) of opposing hitters per game.
Redshirt-freshman Arria Johnson leads the Marauders in the circle with 4 wins and a 3.69 ERA in 13 appearances, while sophomore catcher Emily Schommer and sophomore infielder Janelle Bergmann lead the offense as Schommer is hitting .359 with 2 homers and 10 RBIs and Bergmann is batting .353 with 12 RBIs.
This week's in-state battle is one of the last between the Beavers and Marauders this season, and the final meeting on the MSU campus. The Minot State baseball team will host Mary in a mid-week doubleheader at Corbett Field on Wednesday, April 17.
