Beavers complete weekend sweep, top Bemidji State 5-1 and 1-0

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State's pitching led the way Sunday allowing just one run as the Beavers swept an NSIC doubleheader from visiting Bemidji State, 5-1 and 1-0 at the SCHEELS Complex at South Hill.
 
Reegan Floyd struck out five and Kierra Fournier added a scoreless inning of relief in the opener, then Gabi Dawyduk shut out the visiting Beavers in the nightcap, the final home game of the season for Minot State.
 
The Beavers now wrap up the regular season on the road with doubleheaders at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday and at St. Cloud State on Sunday.
 
GAME 1 | Minot State 5, Bemidji State 1
MINOT, ND -- Senior Brooklyn Morrison collected two extra base hits to help lead the Minot State Beavers over the Bemidji State Beavers 5-1 Sunday.
 
Junior Reegan Floyd (8-7) got the win for Minot State. The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out five. Sophomore Kierra Fournier also pitched well, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.
 
Morrison's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included a double, a triple, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Paige Kellogg put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Senior Gabi Dawyduk also contributed for the Beavers, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Dawyduk came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.
 
The score stayed at 1-1 until the fifth inning, when the Beavers put runs on the scoreboard once again. The Minot State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Kellogg, which brought the Beavers lead to 5-1. The score remained 5-1 for the rest of the game, as Minot State coasted to the win.

In the batter's box, the Beavers were led by sophomore Paige Kellogg, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI.

The Beavers took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Minot State got on the board thanks to Kellogg's RBI double with one out.
