MANKATO, MN -- Caleb Van De Griend secured a double-double with 28 points and 14 rebounds, but the Minot State men's basketball team fell to the Minnesota State Mavericks 96-91 on the road Friday.
The Beavers (21-7, 12-7 NSIC) had all five starters score in double figures, led by Van De Griend, who put together a double-double with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Jaxon Gunville and Jalen Cook added 17 points each.
Minot State shared the ball well in Friday's game, racking up 15 assists on 34 made field goals. Ayouba Berthe's 4 assists paced the Beavers.
In the push for the playoffs and seeding, every possession is important. Coach Murken liked the response, but early buckets were hard to come by and the Beavers found themselves in another uphill battle in a high-scoring affair.
"We've got to be more ready to execute offensively from the opening tip. We allowed them to play far too comfortable the first 10 minutes and once that happens you have your hands full defensively," Murken said.
"I'm proud of our efforts to fight back and make it a game down to the wire. We are back at it right away tomorrow in another great matchup so we've got to be ready to go!"
