Big games from Mogen, Gustavsson not enough in Minot State's 82-70 loss to Winona State

WINONA, MN --Emma Mogen and Sydney Gustavsson combined to score 43 total points, but the Beavers fell to the Winona State Warriors 82-70 on the road Saturday.

The Beavers (8-19, 7-13) had two players score in double figures, led by Mogen, who had 29 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Gustavsson added 14 points and seven rebounds and Jaime Skeggs added six points.

How It Happened

Minot State started off strong, putting together a 23-22 lead heading into the second quarter. Minot State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 23 points close to the basket.

The Beavers could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 38-33.

Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 61-52 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 19 points in the paint.

Winona State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 77-63 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 77-68 with 57 seconds to go in the contest. Winona State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 82-70.
