MINOT, ND -- Caleb Van De Griend notched a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds to help the Minot State men's basketball team knock off the Augustana Vikings 82-78 at home Thursday.

The Beavers (22-8, 13-8 NSIC) had 3 players score in double figures, led by Van De Griend, who had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Ayouba Berthe added 19 points and Jaxon Gunville helped out with 16 points and 2 steals.

The Minot State offense was strong from downtown, pouring in 11 threes on 29 attempts. Gunville hit 3 treys for the Beavers in the contest.

Daryl Rice Jr. played a key role helping the Beavers overcome early shooting struggles with 8 points off the bench and providing tough defense.

"We knew we had to keep to the game plan and continue to guard how we have been guarding and scouted all week, and we stuck with it and it led to the second half where open shots started to go in," Rice said.

How It Happened
After falling behind 19-8, Minot State went on a 9-0 run with 7:41 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 19-17. Augustana answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Beavers down 35-32 entering halftime.

After intermission, Minot State managed to gain control and had a 67-66 lead before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Gunville's three, to grow the lead to 75-66 with 2:12 to go in the contest. The Vikings narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still held on for the 82-78 win. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting 7 shots from deep to score 21 of its 50 points.
