Blizzard dominant for Minot State in shutout win over Mary

BISMARCK, ND -- The Beavers put up a fight today against the Maruaders and came out on top in both games. In game one, Reegan Floyd and Calley Olson held down the team in the circle throughout nine innings until Anna Lacount scored Ellington Anderson. In game two, the Beavers dominated offensively, scoring nine runs. Jasmine Blizzard threw a shutout and held the Marauders to three hits. The Beavers will next head to Mankato, Minnesota to take on the Minnesota State University- Mankato Mavericks on Friday. 

GAME 1 | Minot State 2, Mary 1

BISMARCK, ND --The Minot State Beavers needed nine innings to get the job done, but earned the 2-1 extra-innings victory over the Mary Marauders Wednesday.

Senior Reegan Floyd (9-3) got the win for Minot State (16-12, ). The right-hander went eight innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out five. Junior Calley Olson also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.

In the batter's box, the Beavers were paced by junior Paige Kellogg, who went 2-for-3 on the day with two walks and an RBI. Junior Anna LaCount put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Junior Taylor Smith also helped out for Minot State, putting together four hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Minot State got an RBI single from LaCount, scoring freshman Ellington Anderson from second base.

The game remained tied until the ninth inning, when the Beavers got going again on offense. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Kellogg, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Beavers. The score remained 2-1 for the rest of the game, as Minot State held on for the win.

Blizzard (6-5) went the distance for Minot State (17-12, ), giving up three hits, walking two and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Minot State got an RBI single from junior Mallory Hoogensen, scoring junior Taylor Smith from second base.

The Beavers then tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings, with their biggest output coming in the seventh when they scored seven times. The big hits in that inning were a two-run single off the bat of senior Abbey Kelley and a two-run home run from junior Anna LaCount.
