Coach Emma Sterkel joined the Minot State women's basketball staff in the summer of 2024 as an assistant coach.
Sterkel spent the previous season as an assistant coach with NCAA Division II Chadron State in Nebraska after a season as a graduate assistant coach at Briar Cliff (Iowa) where she also served as head coach for the Chargers junior varsity team.
A four-year player at Regis (Colo.) where she also earned RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll recognition, Sterkel was a team captain for 2 seasons and finished her career with the Rangers No. 15 all-time in 3-pointers made with 121.
Playing a final season as a graduate student at Briar Cliff, Sterkel helped lead the Chargers to the 2021-22 NAIA National Tournament before moving to the sideline as a coach for the Chargers.
During her playing career Sterkel average 5.9 points per game and shot 32.8 percent from 3-point range.
She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2021 from Regis and two Master's degrees, in Management Leadership and Sports Management, from Briar Cliff in 2023.
Sterkel also is a member of the WBCA and has coached youth travel AAU teams.
