Steven Schultz

Coach Schultz joined the Minot State staff as a graduate assistant coach for the Beavers cross country and track and field program in the fall of 2022 and coached the throwers. He took over as head cross-country coach in the fall of 2023.

Originally from Fremont, Nebraska, Steven attended Concordia University, Nebraska, from 2007 to 2011, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science. During his collegiate career, he competed in cross country and track events ranging from the 800 meters to the 3000-meter steeplechase.

In 2018, Steve began his coaching career at Mount Marty University, focusing on jumps and the multi-events, while also assisting with cross country. His athletes earned NAIA All-American honors in the heptathlon in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and in the decathlon in 2022.

Joining Minot State track and field team in the 2022-23 academic year as a graduate assistant, Steven initially working with the throws group. In the fall of 2023, he served as interim head coach for cross country before being promoted to full-time head coach mid-season. Steve also served as interim head coach for track and field in the spring of 2024. Under his leadership, Minot State athletes have achieved notable success, including conference championships in men’s shot put (indoor 2023), men’s javelin (outdoor 2023), women’s 600 meters (indoor 2024), and men’s high jump (outdoor 2024). Steve also coached NCAA All-Americans Leif Nelson (5th place in javelin in 2023) and Jasiah Hambira (14th place in high jump in 2024).
