Beavers fall just short

Minot State battles undefeated MSU Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Minn.  – Minot State University pushed undefeated Minnesota State Moorhead for nearly the entire game, but the Dragons pulled away late for a 68-60 win in nonconference NCAA Division II men's basketball at Alex Nemzek Hall.

MSU (1-10 overall) led 29-26 at halftime, but saw the Dragons take a five-point lead with just over six minutes remaining. The Beavers' Yonas Behre (Sr., G, Toronto, Ontario) cut the lead to three with a 3-pointer with 2:01 remaining.

Minot couldn't get any closer.

The Dragons (6-0) were solid at the free-throw line down the stretch hitting 7-of-8 over the final two minutes. MSUM was great at the line basically the entire night, hitting 22-of-33 free throws, including 23 for 28 in the second half. The Dragons held a 27-11 advantage on free throws.

The Beavers didn't shoot extremely high percentages, hitting 21-of-58 shots and 7-of-21 3-pointers, but had timely baskets. MSU countered the Dragons throughout the second half. Minot took 10 more shots than MSUM in the second half, but hit just one more basket.

Three Dragons reached double figures paced by a double-double by Alex Novak. Novak poured in 16 pionts and pulled down 13 rebounds – seven on the offensive end. Jake Lindfors finished with a game-high 17 points and added nine rebounds, while DJ Hamilton was 8 for 9 from the line and scored 14 points.

Josh Johnson (Jr., F, Lufkin, Texas) finished with a game-high 19 points to lead Minot State and and added five rebounds and two steals. Adam Randall (R-Fr., G, Steele, N.D.) scored 17 points and pulled down four rebounds for MSU. Behre added 12 points, seven rebounds and dished out a game-high four assists for the Beavers.

Minot State has a short break before heading to Utah for the Westminster College Tournament Dec. 16-17.
