RECORDS
: Minot State enters the weekend's matchups with an 2013 overall record of 1-4-2 and a 1-3-1 record in the Northern Sun. Minnesota State enters the matchup with the Beavers with an impressive 7-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the NSIC. Concordia University, St. Paul currently sits at 3-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the Northern Sun.

COACHES CORNER: Minot State's head coach is Jason Spain. Spain is in his fourth season with the Beavers and he sports a record 36-23-8. Last season, he led MISU to a NSIC Tournament Championship as well as an NCAA Division II National Tournament berth. The Mavericks are coached by Brian Bahl. Bahl is in his first season at Minnesota State but has coaching experience in the Northern Sun. He coached Upper Iowa for six seasons, bringing the Peacocks to a 66-43-17 overall record. The Golden Bears are coached by Steve Bellis. Bellis is in his third season with Concordia and has a record of 18-24-1. In 2012, he coached the Golden Bears to a 8-9-1 mark, but finished two points out of qualifying for the NSIC Tournament.

RANKINGS: Minot State and Concordia University, St. Paul did not receive any votes in the Oct. 1 National Soccer Coaches' Association of American Poll. Minnesota State remained at the No. 5 rank in the poll.

RECENT HISTORY: The Beavers lost a pair of one-goal matches to tough opponents during Homecoming weekend 2013. In a 1-1 game Friday night, Minot State allowed a goal with under seven minutes to play allowing Winona State to make out of Minot with a win. Looking to rally back Sunday against a solid Upper Iowa squad, another late goal doomed the Beavers. The fell to the Peacocks 1-0 in OT as Maggie Olson scored the game-deciding goal in the 98th minute. Minnesota State has won four straight matches, all coming in Northern Sun play. The Mavericks took down MSU-Moorhead 5-0 in Moorhead, Minn. before they took down Northern State 2-1. Concordia University, St. Paul split against the Wolves and Dragons this past weekend, falling to NSU 0-1 before defeating MSU-Moorhead 1-0.

NOTING THE MAVERICKS: A year after making it to the Elite Eight of NCAA Division II soccer, Minnesota State appears poised to make another deep run. The only blemish on the MSU schedule is a 2-0 loss to No. 2 Grand Valley State University. MSU has outscored opponents 18-3 and outshot opponents 163-73 in eight matches in 2013. Korey Kronforst leads the Mavericks with six goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Molly McGough has made 24 saves on the year while allowing just 0.66 goals per match.

NOTING THE GOLDEN BEARS: Concordia University, St. Paul has had a strong defense in 2013, allowing just 1.12 goals per match. However, the Golden Bears have had trouble scoring as they have been shut out five times; all ending in Concordia losses. McKenzie Buck and Alahna Anderson lead the Golden Bears with two goals apiece. Concordia has rolled with two goalkeepers as both Kayla Kuczaboski and Emma Gartner have played more than 270 minutes this season.

SERIES HISTORY: Minot State and Minnesota State have faced each other twice, both coming in 2012. On Sept. 30, 2012 the Mavericks defeated the Beavers 2-0 at Herb Parker Stadium, giving MISU their only home loss of the season. Minot State would get their revenge in the semifinals of the 2012 NSIC Tournament as they advanced past the Mavericks by winning a shootout 3-2. The Beavers and Golden Bears faced each other just once in 2012. In that match, Minot State scored two first half goals on their way to a 2-1 win.

BOUNCE BACK BEAVERS: After taking two one-goal losses during the latest home stand, Minot State will look to bounce back with wins to turn around their season. In 2012, after a one-goal loss to Upper Iowa, MISU rattled off nine wins in the next 11 matches to end the regular season.

STRONG DEFENSE: With the exception of allowing four goals to the undefeated Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs, the Minot State defense has been stingy allowing just over one goal per match. Gemma Biasetto (So., GK, Alburquerque, N.M.) and a solid unit of defenders have made things difficult for opposing offenses to get good looks in the zone. Only 47 percent of opponents shots have reached Biasetto in the goal.

CORNER KICK SUCCESS: Kayla Schlittenhart (So., Mid, Sparks, Nev.) scored her second goal of the season in the 1-2 loss to Winona State. Her goal came the exact same way her first goal came, a corner kick by teammate Zoe Fisher (Jr., F, Cambridgeshire, England) as Schlittenhart then headed into the goal. The problem is the Beavers rank No. 12 in the NSIC in corner kicks per game (3.29 pg). Minot State will definitely look to get the ball in their opponent's zone and score goals off corner kicks.

GOALS NOT EASY TO COME BY: The Minot State offense has struggled to start the 2013 season, scoring just four goals in seven matches. Things don't appear to be getting any easier as the Beavers will face the No. 2 and No. 7 defensive teams in the NSIC this road trip. Minnesota State has allowed just five goals in nine matches while Concordia has given up nine goals in eight matches.

TAKING IT OFFENSIVE: The Beavers scored multiple goals for the first time of the season in the 2-1 win over University of Sioux Falls. Last season, Minot State scored multiple goals in nine matches leading the Beavers to a perfect 9-0-0 record when scoring two goals or more.

BY THE NUMBERS
20.4
: Minnesota State's offensive attacks is tops in the NSIC as they average 20.4 shots per match. The Maverick defense also holds up their end of the bargain allowing just 9.1 shots per match.

87: Concordia University, St. Paul goalkeeper Emma Gartner played 87 minutes of shutout soccer when facing, then ranked No. 4, Minnesota State on Sept. 12. The Mavericks, however, scored in the third minute of the game on a rebound in the box but did not score the rest of the match as Gartner made eight consecutive saves.

6.14: Minot State goalkeeper Gemma Biasetto (So., Alburqureque, N.M.) ranks No. 6 in the Northern Sun with 6.14 saves per game. Biasetto made a career-high eight saves in the 2-1 loss to Winona State on Sept. 27.
