Late goal sinks Beavers

Minot State gives up goal in 84th minute in loss

Box Score MINOT, N.D. – Winona State's Samantha Fegen snapped a 1-1 tie in the 84th minute to send the Warriors to a 2-1 win over Minot State University in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer match played in a steady downpour at Herb Parker Stadium.

The Beavers (1-3-2 overall, 1-2-1 NSIC) fell for the first time at The Herb in nearly a year with the late goal.

"We dropped a couple balls in the box and allowed a few balls to get free," said MISU head coach Jason Spain. "It's tough to control the ball when it's slipping around. They were rolling off our marks and I've got to do a better job of teaching. We allow shots from 30, but we have to choose our spots better."

Minot State tied the match and took some momentum as sophomore Kayla Schlittenhart (M, Sparks, Nev.) headed in her second goal in as many games off a set piece, notching her second of the year on a corner from Zoe Fisher (Jr., F, Cambridgeshire, England).

"Zoe does a good job of putting ball to certain people," Spain said. "They had some big bodies and it's good to have someone go in there and get a body on them and make things happen."
Winona State (3-2-1, 2-2-0) got an early lead on a Kati Baker goal in the 17th minute.

The Beavers, who have lacked intensity at times during the season, played a much more aggressive game, generating nine shot including seven on goal. Minot State gave up 18 shots, but only 10 were on goal as much of the Winona offense came from the outside.

Alexandra Vial paced the Warriors with six saves, while Minot State's Gemma Biasetto (So., GK, Albuquerque, N.M.) suffered the loss with eight saves.

Minot State will look to rebound with another tough home match as the Beavers play host to Upper Iowa Sunday at 1 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium.
