Teams: Minot State vs Minnesota State-Moorhead | Series: Minot State leads 3-0-1
Date: Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014 | Time: 1 p.m. | Site: Herb Parker Stadium

MATCH-UPS: Minot State begins the final weekend of the regular season on the road at Northern State. The Wolves are currently sitting in the No. 10 position in the NSIC and they average less than a goal per game which bodes well for the Beavers, one of the best defensive teams in the league. Minot State ends the regular season with a home match against Minnesota State-Moorhead on Nov. 2 and Herb Parker Stadium. Moorhead has won just two games in the conference this season, so the Beavers will look to gain three points against the Dragons.

RECORDS: Minot State enters the week of Oct. 27 with an 8-6-2 overall record and a 7-5-1 record in the Northern Sun. The Beavers are coming off a last second thrilling victory against Wayne State. The Northern State Wolves are 6-10 overall this season with a 5-8 record in the NSIC. The team is currently riding a two-game winning streak. Minnesota State-Moorhead has just two wins and 11 losses in the Northern Sun and is 3-12 overall on the season. They're currently in the middle of a three-game losing streak.

COACHES CORNER: 2014 marks Jason Spain's fifth season as head coach of the women's soccer program at Minot State. Spain has done impressive work in his four seasons with the team, sporting a highly successful 42-27-9 record. Last season, Spain led the Beavers to their second consecutive birth in the NSIC postseason tournament. In 2012, the Beavers won the NSIC tournament and claimed the automatic bid into the NCAA Division II tournament. Steve Kehm is in his 17th season with the Northern State Wolves. He's the only coach to ever lead the program. During his time with Northern State, the program has produced 48 all-conference players and three NSIC MVPs. 2014 marks the 16th season Rollie Bulock has been the leader of the Minnesota State-Moohead soccer program. Bulock has been honored as the NSIC Coach of the Year twice in his time with the school and he's produced 17 All-NSIC players.

RANKINGS: In the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll released on Oct. 21, neither team the Beavers face this week are ranked in the top 25 in the country.

NOTING THE BEAVERS: This past weekend Minot State picked up three of a possible six points on their road trip to Augustana College and Wayne State College. In the first game of the weekend, Minot State fell 2-1 to the Vikings despite getting out to an early 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Kristin Long (Jr., M, Mesa, Ariz.). The Beavers gave up two unanswered goals, one in the first half and one in the second, that eliminated their chances to host a home NSIC playoff game. This past Sunday, the Beavers got back on the winning side of the scoresheet due to a last second goal from Gemma Biasetto (Jr., F, Albuquerque, N.M.). After Minot State tied the contest up at one in the 55th minute, Biasetto settled a ball off a free kick and gave the Beavers a 2-1 lead with 0:01 remaining on the clock.

NOTING THE WOLVES: After losing five straight games in the middle of the NSIC season, Northern State boosted itself up the NSIC table this past weekend getting wins against Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State. In their first game this past weekend at Sioux Falls, neither team was able to find the back of the net in regulation. It didn't take long for the Wolves to make the break-through in extra time, though, as Allie Macdonald scored in the first 10-minute period. Northern State carried their momentum into their game the following day against Southwest Minnesota State. Macdonald scored in the 58th minute and it proved to be the only goal need to come away with the win.

NOTING THE DRAGONS: The Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons are in the middle of a three-game losing streak and have lost seven of their last eight games in Northern Sun play. This past weekend the Dragons traveled to SMSU and Sioux Falls where they were handed a 2-1 loss and a 1-0 loss respectively. Moorhead has struggled to score consistently throughout the 2014 campaign as their leading goal-scorer, Jessica Johnson, only has two goals on the season. Seven other players have scored one goal for the Dragons.

SERIES HISTORY: Minot State has never lost to Northern State in their brief history (2-0-1). Last season the Beavers defeated the Wolves in a tight 1-0 match at Herb Parker Stadium. The Beavers have been just as successful against MSU-Moorhead, going 3-0-1 in the teams' short history. Last season MSU pulled out a 2-0 victory in the final regular season game of the year.

REACHING A MILESTONE: In just his fifth year as the head coach of the Minot State women's soccer program, Jason Spain reached the 50-win milestone with the team's win over Wayne State last Sunday. In his first four seasons at the helm, Spain is averaging 10.5 wins a season and has already led the program to an NSIC conference championship after just two full seasons at NCAA Division II.

REDEFINING A BUZZER-BEATER: While the Minot State Beavers came out with a win this past Sunday at Wayne State, it took the entire 90-minutes of play to do so. Gemma Biasetto (Jr., F, Albuquerque, N.M.) found a bouncing ball in the box with seconds remaining on the clock and put the ball in the back of the net with just one second remaining to give the Beavers a much-needed three points and a win. Biasetto has scored three goals for Minot State this season. The goal was her first game-winning goal for the Beavers in 2014.

ATTACKING AS A DEFENDER: Emilie Rebelo (Jr., D, Sacramento, Calif.) continued to show why she's one of the most dangerous players on set pieces in the league Sunday afternoon in the Beavers win over Wayne State. Rebelo headed in her team-leading 5th goal of the season off a corner kick served in by Jamie MacFarlane (Sr., F, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and served in a ball on a free kick that led to the game-winning goal in the last second of play. All five of Rebelo's goals this season have been scored off set pieces.

BY THE NUMBERS
1: The Beavers continue to be one of the best defensive teams in the Northern Sun this year as they're allowing just one goal per game, good for fourth in the conference.

4-9: With just two games remaining, the Beavers have the ability to finish anywhere between a tie for 4th or 9th in the NSIC, pending the results of other teams in the league.

11.63: The Beavers have committed 186 fouls in conference play this season, good for 11.63 per game. That's the most in the NSIC by about two fouls per game.
