MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State baseball team hoped to end its eight-game road trip on a high note Wednesday afternoon, but the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles eliminated that opportunity as the Beavers fell twice in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference midweek series.
MSU got off to a quick 1-0 start in game one and held the same lead for four straight innings, but a four-run fifth inning from the Golden Eagles decided the game as Crookston went on to win 4-2.
Austin Zorn (Sr., P, Bismarck, N.D.) was credited with the loss for the Beavers despite providing a strong effort on the mound. Zorn surrendered all four runs, but they were all unearned, on six hits and struck out five batters.
Jared Young (Fr., INF, Prince George, British Columbia) and
Jordan Schulz (So., OF, Strasbourg, Saskatchewan) each recorded an RBI in game one.
Like game one, game two started off strong for Minot State as Schulz hit a two-run homer to right field, his 12th of the season, to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
But the game changed late.
Holding a 3-2 lead heading into the seventh inning, MSU gave up five runs between the seventh and eighth innings as the Golden Eagles went on to take the game 7-3.
Wyatt Moore (R-Fr., P, Aurora, Ore.) received a no-decision in the loss in his first collegiate start. He finished his day throwing four innings, giving up two runs on five hits.
Caleb Fornshell (R-Fr., SS/2B, Minot, N.D.) accounted for the third RBI in the game for the Beavers with a sacrifice fly in the second inning.

With the losses, Minot State falls to 12-29 overall and 8-22 heading into the final weekend of the season.
MSU hosts Minnesota Duluth beginning on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Beavers will honor their five seniors on Saturday at the conclusion of the first game of the doubleheader.
