FAYETTE, Iowa – The Minot State University baseball team lost its third and fourth games against Upper Iowa this weekend 6-5 and 9-5, respectively.
The Beavers, despite recording more hits than their opponents throughout both games, struggled to put the bat on the ball when it mattered.
"Offensively we got a lot of hits, we just have to do a better job of getting them when they count," said head coach
Brock Weppler. "Doesn't necessarily have to even be a hit, get a ground ball or a fly ball, anything to get some runs in. We out hit them that game, but they did better with guys in scoring position."
In the first game of the day, starting pitcher
Kendal Daniels (Jr., Regina, Saskatchewan) threw every inning for MSU after allowing three runs in the first inning and five earned runs overall in the 6-5 loss.
"I thought Kendal threw really well today," Weppler said. "After the first inning he settled in and allowed two hits in the next five innings and did a great job."
Leading the day for the Beavers offensively was
Jordan Schulz (OF, Jr., Strasbourg, Saskatchewan) who recorded five hits and two RBIs in just eight at bats.
Celestino Rodriguez (1B/DH, Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill.) and
Jarrod Adams both hit homeruns in the first game of the day for the team's 15th and 16th homers of the season. Rodriguez leads the team with five.
Minot State will play at Augustana University in a four-game series beginning April 2 at 12 p.m.
